About Allan Rhodes - Conservative

Ronald Reagan was the first President that I voted for while growing up in the Southern traditional Democratic Family. Many of our parents voted for Jimmy Carter, a Baptist Minister from Georgia and it only took 4 years to realize that - that kind of change was wrong for the Country. We gave away the Panama Cannel, let leaders from other countries run all over us, had a failed policy in the middle-east where the Arab oil cartel created oil shortages and demonstrated how vulnerable we were to a single source of oil. Inflation was running rampant, interest rates were on the rise and jobs were being lost all over the country. Then along came a cowboy set in his conservative ways and how to deal with foreign powers through strength and the most prosperous time in our Nations history began to take off. I certainly credit the good times in the 90s from Regan’s reductions in capital gains, and lowering taxes while reducing federal involvement in our State government and businesses.

I am both a social and fiscal conservative. Socially, I believe in the 10 Commandments and that there is one God, the God of the Holy Bible who establishes freedom for all to choose Him or reject Him. That same freedom is the foundation for our expressed freedom that all men are created equal with certain unalienable rights, of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. We must protect those freedoms, beginning at the State level with states rights, and supporting legislation that will provide law enforcement with the tools to enforce the laws on the books, prosecute those who commit crimes, while at the same time promoting personal liberty through personal responsibility. If people will do the right thing and not violate the personal freedoms of others then it is possible to reduce the size of government since we will need less of it to keep the peace.

As your next Alabama State Senator from District 7, I will stand as a conservative and work for smaller, leaner, transparent government who listens to the people and reduces the business and individual tax burden while providing the services a government should provide, like the creation and maintenance of infrastructure (building of roads, bridges, water and sewage systems, maintain parks, pick up trash, and fix potholes), provide access to quality education post and secondary, to mention a few. However, every citizen must do their share by participating in self government through personal responsibility.

We will need less government as people begin to respect others and live accordingly. Alabama does not need to continue passing laws defining personal responsibility, just enforce those already on the books and we can begin to slow down the growth of government. As an example, if you are here illegally we don’t need additional laws. Enforce the ones we have and send them back to the country of origin. If you commit a crime then do the time. Sounds simple but to reduce State Government we need to elect a new brand of leadership - a true Conservative who will listen and fight for the citizens of the 7th district and demand enforcement of our current laws.
